Beowulf
This riveting performance of the great Anglo-Saxon epic takes listeners to an age that still speaks powerfully to our own. Performed with Celtic harp. Includes preparatory material.

The Civil War
Songs and stories from the Civil War era transport students into a time of bloody conflict and courage.

The Great Depression
Hobos and the homeless. Dustbowl refugees and a New Deal. All come to life in song and story.

On a Southern Breeze
Appalachian Jack Tales, B’rer Rabbit, and ballads of every description celebrate a shared Southern tradition that keeps audiences of all ages in stitches!

Poetry OFF the Page!
Words come alive when spoken. And the best poetry comes alive when heard. This absorbing presentation by Ms. Vinsonhaler (a former poetry editor with The Carolina Quarterly) informs and inspires! Upon request, this program can be tailored for a selected period of study.

Shakespeare and His Day
Shakespeare drew on the power of the oral tradition in all his work. A weave of poetry, drama, balladry and history inspires appreciation for the great Bard.

Residencies
Using methods drawn from years of experience as a teacher, journalist, scholar, professional writer and performer, residency programs inspire a lasting appreciation of the power of language.

Storytelling Residency
Students enjoy performances and learn how to tell stories. The experience builds classroom community, develops language and cognitive abilities, and inspires confidence in public speaking. The residnecy also includes a dynamic faculty in-service program on communication in the classroom.

Folklore Residency
Students apply journalistic techniques as they gather stories from family and community members. The Residency program also includes storytelling performances for all students, a faculty in-service program and book publication.

Southern Legends
Spanish conquistadors and the French colonialists. Ghosts and treasure. The Father of Waters. Legends make fascinating history.

Ghosts I Have Known
A terrific introduction to the most popular genre of the oral tale: ghost stories. The performance demonstrates the creative link between fear and imagination. Students also learn to tell a tale!

Heroes
Stories about heroes allow young listeners to “walk a mile” with those who found victory against seemingly invincible odds.
